Immaculate Conception School is a Catholic elementary school, located in the heart of Towson at 112 Ware Avenue. Our school enrollment is 510 students from Pre-K 3 through 8th grade. ICS is a National Blue Ribbon School with a STREAM infused curriculum. STREAM at ICS is an interdisciplinary approach to education that includes science, technology, religion, engineering, the arts, and math. At ICS, we host an annual STREAM Fair in the spring. It encompasses bodies of work that have been developed and created throughout the academic school year. The STREAM Fair exhibits and demonstrations are part of the ICS curriculum and showcase the integration of all aspects of STREAM into our Immaculate Conception School.
Starting with the youngest students in Pre-K 3 to 1st grade, the STREAM infused curriculum is introduced beyond the classroom in the ICS STREAM Makerspace Lab. Students explore and develop, working toward a better understanding of the STREAM components. Ultimately, they are building a foundation that stimulates and supports critical thinking concepts in all aspects of STREAM. Among the features in the ICS STREAM Makerspace Lab are Chromebook computers, Ozobot programmable robots and a Lego wall.
Technology needs are a focus at all grade levels. Our iPad program for students in 6th through 8th grade as well as the Computer and Robotics rooms, 3D Printers and Chromebook and laptop carts for the Pre-K to 5th grade students are advancements in technology that we are proud to have available to our students. The SMART Boards and Interactive Panels are primary teaching tools in the classrooms due to their interactive features and diverse learning materials. Providing student engagement, increased interaction and collaboration, and the ability to reach students with all learning styles, our teachers use them every day during their instruction.
As we all know, technology changes, updates, and outdates at a rapid pace. We are committed to maintaining and providing state-of-the-art technology. The advancements of the technology at Immaculate Conception School are costly, and funds from the BGE grant, if awarded, would be directed in part toward technology.
Science is another area of focus at ICS that would benefit from the Captain Mercaptan program. The use of consumables in the four science labs is an essential element of the science curriculum for students in Pre-K 3 all the way through 8th grade. The consumables used vary from for each grade level and each science lab. To meet the required standards in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, a variety of lessons, hands-on activities and experiments are an important part of the educational process.
At Immaculate Conception School, our goals are to provide all students with the opportunities for a strong faith life, to continue to champion superior standards of academic excellence and growth development and to keep pace with the technology goals of the Archdiocese for elementary schools. Our educational focus is to provide a solid academic foundation and to develop critical thinking skills. Additionally, we encourage students to give witness to Catholic values through service to the church, parish, family and society.
