Ken Matthews – Perry Hall Christian School
Perry Hall Christian School would like to enrich student learning by creating classrooms that center around STEAM learning. We will begin with having a STEAM project to be done at every grade level, in every classroom, every month throughout the school year. In addition, we would like to start a STEAM afterschool program that would allow students to explore their world; inventing, creating and using their world as a laboratory to expand on the classroom knowledge they are gaining in school. We believe learning does not just happen in the classroom but rather through a variety of life experiences. To make this happen we need two things: time and money. While you cannot help us with time, you can help us with the financial support to make every opportunity possible for our students. Not only do we wish to enrich the learning of our current students, we also seek to enrich future students as well. We desire to inspire teachers to make their classrooms a place where imagination takes students to places of learning that have never before been possible. We would like to take field trips to places such as Baltimore’s Museum of Industry or to the Goddard Space Flight Center. Students could participate in Junior Achievement programs, such as Biztown or JA’s afterschool programs. We would be able to send our teachers to professional development seminars, such as “Designed to STEAM” or “Managing the Arts Integrated Classroom”. If we can educate our professionals on how to incorporate STEAM ideas in the classroom, the trickledown effect will be unending. Financial support would provide supplies to make these activities possible. We are grateful for the opportunities that the BGE support has provided for our students in the past and look forward to any future opportunities that we are afforded. Thank you for helping us to invest in our students.
Respectfully submitted,
