Kristy Allen – St. Stephen School

We are excited to enter the BGE Gas Hero contest again this year. Our class learned the how to identify a gas leak, and the proper steps to take to stay safe in the event of a leak. They were enthusiastic about creating comics to depict our class safety message.

If we won money from our entry, I would use it to fund the purchase of materials teachers could use throughout the year for STEM activities with their classes. I know first hand that if teachers want to do interesting hands on activities with their students, we often make trips to Walmart, the grocery store, or the local craft store, to purchase materials for kids to use. I wonder if most people know that we are paying for many of those items out of our own wallets, which I and many other teachers cannot always afford! It would be amazing to have a “fund” from which teachers could draw to purchase incidental items for inquiry based learning during the school year.

Thank you for giving schools this opportunity each year to learn about energy and safety, and to earn prize money to help our students learn.
