Giving Every Student a Voice
During science instruction we are utilizing many web 2.0 tools in order to ensure that all students are actively engaged in our daily learning experiences. For example, during a lesson students communicate with one another by sharing thoughts through the use of online discussion boards. They share their observations, data collected in experiments, and write scientific explanations. They then comment and provide feedback to one another on the discussion board. This helps to meet the goals of our Next Generation science practices as the students analyze and interpret data, construct explanations (for science), and designing solutions (for engineering), engage engaging in arguments from evidence and obtain, evaluate, and communicate information. We currently only have enough tablets to provide a 2 to 1 ratio in our daily instruction. We would like to purchase additional laptops to work towards creating a one to one environment each day in our classrooms. This grant would help to ensure that all students are participating and sharing their ideas.
