Sarah Monteau – Elmer A. Wolfe Elementary School

Environmental Club has planned and designed a renovation to our courtyard at school. We have developed 3 phases to the massive renovation. The renovation will include various gardens such as a pollinator garden to help pollinators find food. The garden will also help our kindergarten students collect and raise monarch butterflies in their classrooms while learning about their life cycle. The new courtyard will also contain an outdoor classroom where teachers and students will be able to teach and learn outside. We hope to also have a living roof as an example of an environmental friendly building construct; it will also provide shade for people using the area for lunch or learning. We are also hoping to be able to purchase a greenhouse for the courtyard so we have a community garden. The community garden will provide fresh vegetables and herbs to the families of students who attend Elmer Wolfe throughout the summer and into the fall. Any remaining money would continue to support the various projects planned by Environmental Club. Some of these projects include purchasing reusable trays for the cafeteria to eliminate the use of Styrofoam trays and our first Farm to Table dinner that will educate the community about the benefits of eating local.
